Who Are Jiva Workshop Wedding Photography & Video?
We are the dynamic, husband and wife team made up of a dedicated wedding photographer and a wedding cinematographer based on the Mornington Peninsula. We aim to capture your story through our still and moving imagery. Our hope is that this memento of your special day will last generations.
We view capturing a wedding as an honour. We care about what makes you unique as a couple and what you want to be captured on the day.
In our early careers, we worked in film, television and advertising. We are grateful to have captured such things as volcano's exploding in Italy, Stingrays in the Caymen Islands, Mardi Gras in New Orleans and working with brands and bands such as U2.
Having captured weddings all around the world, including Machu Pichu, Dunns River in Jamaica, Cozumel Mexico, New Orleans, Miami, Grand Caymen and even weddings on board large cruise ships, we discovered that the most gratifying part of the work was the joy we created for a couple from our images and films. Not a lot beats the feeling of seeing your work pop up on social media year after year from a client.
So when we decided to settle down on the Mornington Peninsula, it made sense to carry on that joy, and Jiva Workshop was born.
How do we shoot weddings?
Every picture tells a story. That's what we believe. Our style of catching candid, natural moments and details of your wedding day speak louder than words ever could.
We might have to give a little direction to get the perfect shot. Still, we believe in putting ourselves in the best position to capture the knowing glances between a couple, the whispers in each other's ear and the inside jokes that make the best imagery.
We like to consult with a wedding couple (often more than once) before the wedding to understand what makes them tick. We know that wedding photography and wedding videography is important. Still, we also believe that the essential piece of a wedding is the couple, the families and guests at the wedding.
The Technical Stuff
Who shoots your wedding? We do!! We will often have an extra crew with us to capture multiple details and camera angles of the day (this makes for a better-finished result.)
Our photography is shot mostly on 30 Mp Canon Camera's and lenses, and for the video, we use primarily Blackmagic & Sony 4K cinema camera's with Sony lenses.
We only DJI for our drone work.

What We Offer
- VIDEOGRAPHY - we use a candid, fly on the wall approach when we film our couples. We film mainly in 4K, so you get a very high calibre of the image.
- PHOTOGRAPHY - our approach to photography is a mixture of candid and staged, dependent on what you want. When grading your images, we have several styles - choose between vivid with lots of colour, light and airy with a slight fade, a darker feel, and black and white - or let us choose for you.
- LIVE STREAMING SERVICES - since the arrival of the dreaded Covid pandemic (tired face!!), many of our couples have opted for smaller, more intimate weddings with limited guests. With international travel restrictions, many loved ones are not able to attend. This caused us to come up with a live streaming solution for our couples and introduce a heap of new equipment to allow those loved ones who cannot attend to participate online and stream via a private youtube link. This has been a proven success, and now we pride ourselves on offering live streaming as one of our core services.
- AERIAL DRONE CINEMATOGRAPHY - we love to squeeze in some drone footage on your special day - location and weather permitting
- GOOD SOUND QUALITY - we make sure that we capture the best possible sound on the day. We do this with a lapel mic we place on the groom, and recording devices run out of the celebrants mic. We also record direct out of any venue PA and sometimes the band or DJ system to get the highest possible audio which we later sync with the editing footage.
- MUSIC - we have access to various licensed music websites, which we get our couples to pick from before we start editing the footage
- HANDCRAFTED USB GIFT BOX - Once we have finished editing and received your approval on our work, we then upload all the files to a beautifully handcrafted wooden USB and gift box, which send to you in the mail

Preparations, Ceremony, Portraits and Reception
Often in meetings with couples, especially those who haven't been married before, I am asked the question, "So, how does it all work? How does the day run? What does natural or candid wedding photographer mean? What does a typical "wedding photography Melbourne" day mean when you shoot our wedding?
And although all celebrations are unique, they're usually made up of the phases of getting ready, the ceremony itself, portraits with family, friends and the bridal party, and then a party to celebrate. Not always in this order! We often do "first look" shoots where the couple sees each other for the first time before the ceremony itself, and sometimes even bridal party and family shots beforehand. It's completely up to you – it's your day – and I'm there to capture everything that happens (and give you a hand or some advice if you're not sure when to do what).
Preparations
If I'm covering your preparations (check out our Client Guide to see our different packages relating to wedding photography Melbourne), then usually I'll start with the groom (or one of the brides if we have two!), and then head on to the bride's "getting ready" spot. This might be a hotel, private house, or at the venue itself, depending on what you've arranged – I'll go wherever I need to, and we'll have worked out a photography timeline in advance based on your arrangements for the day.
During preparations, I'll take detail shots of all the things you've prepared and thought about for your special day. For grooms, this is usually things like cufflinks, ties, buttonholes, watches and gifts – all the accessories. And for brides, it's thinking like your dress, shoes, flowers, and jewellery. It could also be your invitations, unforgettable memories and mementos from loved ones, that kind of thing.
Then it's time to get ready – for grooms, that means ties, jackets, and buttonholes, and maybe a celebratory drink for good luck (and maybe to steady the nerves;) ).
For our brides, it's time to put that beautiful dress on – your bridesmaids will help you out with that. And they'll help with shoes, your jewellery, anything else that you need to be ready for your big moment.
And for both brides and grooms, we will then have time for some portraits of you both, along with your bridesmaids and groomsmen.
Ceremony
Well, the ceremony kind of has a life of its own, which is perfect for a candid wedding photographer – you two won't even notice me, as you'll be too busy getting married! But I'll be there to capture some pre-ceremony shots as guests arrive, the bride as she makes her entrance and all the special moment that make up the wedding ceremony. Formalities might include:
- Exchanging rings.
- Some vows.
- Signing the register, and of course.
- The all-important first kiss.
Then, when you're declared to be married, it's really special to spend a few minutes being congratulated by your family and friends.
Portraits
If you'd like to do a big group shot, now is the time to do it, while we have everyone together, and then while I have everyone's attention, I'll ask some people to say behind for formal portraits – we'll have a chat in advance of the day to talk about who you'd like to include in those.
Then usually – but not always! – it's time to go and get your bridal shots done. Some with your whole bridal party together – including and special little ones and kids who've helped you out – and of course those shots of just the two of you together.
For your bridal photography, we can either stay on site (if that's part of the reason you chose the venue), or we can go to one or more locations – give me a call or email me an enquiry, and we can have a chat about your thoughts on how that might work.
Reception – Candid Wedding Photographer
It's party time! And that means you are celebrating with your loved ones together for the first time as a married couple. Whether it's a full-on formal reception with hundreds of guests or a backyard celebration with a few of your besties, I'll be there to capture those special moments, formal and informal. Wedding photography Melbourne formalities are often things like a first dance, speeches, and cutting the cake. Later on, you might do a traditional bouquet toss and say thanks to your guests before waving goodbye – plenty for a candid wedding photographer to capture.
Either way, if you've booked me to cover the full day, that's exactly what it means. While you are enjoying the day you've been dreaming of, we will be capturing each meaningful moment as it naturally unfolds. Your day is filled with so much joy and emotion, and we will be there to document it all, from the treasured candid moments to the timeless formal portraits.
We hope that these images will authentically and beautifully tell your story. As you look back on them, we hope you relive the emotions and memories of that day. And as the photos get passed on, we want the generations after you to have a timeless glimpse into your story, too.
Pre-Wedding Shoot
Our pre-wedding shoot is the perfect time for us to work together in person before your wedding day. We want you to feel totally at ease and comfortable in front of the camera. This shoot is designed to capture this exciting time in your story while also getting a feel for what to expect on the wedding day.
This shoot typically takes place up to six months before your wedding day. We can catch up over coffee and have fun taking some easygoing photos of you together. This shoot can be at the location of your choice, or we can help you find a location that is a great fit for you, like a nice park, a cafe, the beach, or the city.

As mentioned above, look for a consistent photographer. It is quite natural to get mesmerised by looking at the wedding pictures, but what about pre-wedding ceremonies. You want to hire a photographer who can click the same quality picture for each function until your wedding day.
