Shine Dance Studio – Dance Class Studios Melbourne

Conveniently located on Moorabbin, Highett & Cheltenham’s border, for over 15 years, our school has taught hundreds of girls and boys in the area how to dance and sing. Shine’s motto is simple – “Have Fun & Be Motivated!” We feel that if our students are enjoying themselves, they are more likely to produce better results. Our teachers are instructed to motivate the students to enjoy their lessons, but just as importantly continue to learn and better themselves in technique and confidence.
As corny as this may sound ‘Shine Dance Studio’ was first scribbled on a serviette in Venice, Italy, 2003.
Whilst eating a mandatory plate of pasta and pondering the next chapter of their lives together, Vanessa and Adrian struck up the framework for what was to become their very own Performing Arts school this side of the equator!
Since opening its doors in 2005, Shine has been the leading Dance & Singing Studio for kids living in Moorabbin, Cheltenham, Highett, East Bentleigh, Heatherton, Oakleigh, McKinnon, Ormond, Hampton East, Beaumaris, Brighton, Mentone, Mordialloc, Parkdale, Dingley and surrounds with an overwhelming and enthusiastic response from beginners to advanced students joining our fun, friendly and motivating atmosphere!!
Shine prides itself on having the student’s best interest at heart. Our teachers can not only dance and sing exceptionally well, but they can teach exceptionally well too.

Princess Jasmina’s family origins bear an appealing blend of Mediterranean, Balkan, Middle Eastern & European nationalities which have permitted her to discover invigorating influences that have led her to true passion and commitment toward the art of belly dancing. On hearing the playing of the tabla/tarabukka, as a young girl, she would surrender her body totally to its entrancing sounds and rhythms abandoning her movements freely to its beat. Her love and experience of traditional Indian, Turkish and Arabic cinema ignited a nostalgic wish to belly dance. It acted like the actresses in the films she saw throughout her life. She started taking acting classes at a ‘Youth Academy for Acting’ while never losing focus and passion for the gypsy drum.
Always passionate to be a performer Princess Jasmina began belly dancing gypsy style at every family event. So much so that for her fourteenth birthday her aunties purchased her very first tailor-made belly dance costume. It was around this time that Princess Jasmina decided that she wanted to learn more. She began having her first lessons with a Lebanese woman who taught her the basics. Her passion and determination led her to learn from various Turkish, Lebanese, Arabic and Greek communities.

POM
Similar to jazz, technical dance was executed holding a pom pom in each hand whilst performing a varying array of tricks, skills, and motions. We offer pom for all ages (from children 3yrs to adult 60yrs plus) both competitive and recreational.

Can everyone be a good dancer?
If you want to make it as a dancer, you need to possess an inexhaustible resilience. Fuelled by determination and passion, you’ll need to push through the extra hours of studio time, injuries, battle losses. and yet more injuries. You’ll need to develop a thick skin to brush off anyone and anything that stands in the way of your dreams.
When it comes to being a dancer, it’s as much about raw skill and honing your talent as it is about your mentality and persistence. Trust that there’ll be many things on the rise that will attempt to tamper with all of the above.
How To Become A Better Dancer
Take Lessons Consistently (You’re not special)
Some people think that they can get good without ever taking any dance lessons…
This is a mistake. Think about everything else you ever learned in your life, did you just wing it? No, you probably took lessons to become good at it. The same goes for dancing. You can take lessons in person or online. For in-person lessons, you can do group classes or private lessons. For online lessons, you can learn from videos.
Furthermore, it is important to take the time to find the right dance teacher for your goals, because some are more qualified than others. My recommendation is to try out a lesson with several teachers before committing to one specific dance instructor.
Practice Daily At Home/Studio
One of the most important habits you need to adopt is a consistent daily practice. No matter how naturally good you are, you need to practice if you want to become a better dancer. Many people assume that just because they take lessons, they don’t need to practice. This could not be further from the truth. It is precise because you take dance lessons, you need to practice even more to make sure you retain everything you’ve been learning.
Becoming a better dancer requires muscle memory. And muscle memory requires a lot of repetition through practice. So don’t overthink it – simply make some room in your living room, get a mirror and practice the things you worked on at your last lesson/class.
Have A Goal
One of the fastest ways to improve your dancing is simply to have a goal to work towards. The goal can be a performance at your studio’s showcase or party. It can also be a dance competition. Even if you don’t want to perform, you can still come up with a social dance goal such as “be able to dance comfortably at next month’s party”. Be creative with it as there is no wrong or right goals. The most important thing is to have one and to have a future date that you’re working towards. This will keep you motivated with your daily practice!
Feel your body
After you’ve learned the mechanics of the steps and routines, you need to make sure that you let your body “Feel” the movements so that all the steps and styling can sink into your muscle memory. You don’t want to be stuck in your head when you’re practising or taking lessons, and you need to be in “your body” to retain the dance moves and progress faster.
After you got it pretty good, just put on the music and try to feel your body going with the music… This will also add enjoyment to your dancing.
Keep yourself inspired
It is critical to work on staying inspired and motivated with your getting better in dancing goal. Life gets in the way, so some days you will be more inspired than others… The key is to figure out some specific triggers that can energise you quickly to get back in the groove, whenever you’re not feeling it.
For example, let’s say you don’t feel like going to your dance practice today. What you can do is watch some videos of your favourite dancers performing your favourite choreography on youtube!
WHAT IS A “GOOD” DANCER?
Everyone has their definition of what a good dancer is. Does that mean you exude confidence and sex appeal on the dance floor? Or maybe it’s that your technique is top-notch. Becoming a “good” dancer largely depends on what your goals are. Being attractive with the ladies can happen quickly, but it will probably take a little bit longer to be a good leader for your partner in ballroom dancing.
HOW MOTIVATED ARE YOU?
Good dancer 2 (1)How motivated you are to learn how to dance can keep you coming back for more. Is there an event you are preparing for where you want to show off your new moves? Do you have a friend who wants to take lessons with you? Do you want to relieve stress or lose a few pounds by dancing? The larger your goals are, the more likely you are to stick with them and make fast progress.
CAN YOU COMMIT?
Like anything in life, the more you practice something, the quicker you’ll pick it up. Coming to a dance lesson once in a while will give you some great skills, but practising at home, doing the 30-day dance challenge and even dancing at nightclubs will all help you reach your goals quicker.
Successful dancers develop a sense of rhythm if they don’t have it.
Dancers who can keep time with rhythm and beats are really lucky. Lack of rhythm is the biggest obstacle but nothing serious. Some people are born with a sense of rhythm, which often forces you to think that you either have it or don’t. But the sense of rhythm can be learned; learning to keep time and master dance steps at the same time becomes easy with regular practice.
Dancing takes a lot of confidence, and people who lack confidence in dancing don’t have the power and the right vibe. You could be born flexible and may have traits that will help you dance. Some people are naturally flexible, but they may not turn out to be good dancers unless they are trained to dance. An inflexible person could reach the same level as a regular practice.
If you have the passion, you can enhance your talent, as well as learn a new dance skill. Take every chance, every platform. Learn from your mistakes. It’s not just about looking cool. Dancing is a gratifying hobby and even a profession for some. All you need is to be patient with yourself. Whether you are born with the talent or striving to learn it, remember that you are in it to be happy and have fun. Whether you are born with the urge to dance or not, you can get into the groove!
