Welcome to the fun world of Wedding Dress fashion!  Since being engaged, you’ve been asked a dizzying array of bridal dress questions – what you like, when you’re shopping, who’s going, are you wearing sleeves, can they come, who’s your favorite designer, who’s buying? Who knew shopping could seem stressful?!

So we have put together a list of ten things you should be aware of before you start looking for that perfect wedding dress

Give your self plenty of time.

It is exhausting, going to and from dress stores and trying on dresses that you may not like is all very tiring but you just have to remember it is all worth it once you find the one. Try not to overdo it with dress appointments. You need to give yourself time to breath and think. 1 to 3 shops in a day would be a suggested maximum to ensure you enery and focus is on point

Be open minded.

After speaking to many brides, many have always dreamed abut their perfect wedding dress, style and shape Don;t be surpised that your final choicemay be completely different to the dress you’ve dreamed about as a child. There are so many styles, fabrics and looks that you may come across a dress that you love and it feels perfect. It could easily be completely different to what you dreamed of.

Have realistic expectations

Sadly, reality television shows such as “Say yes to the dress” create an unrealistic view of a bridal gown shopping experience.  Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get relaity star treatment and served champagne as you try on dresses. You’d be surprised that only a handful will shower you with champagne – perhaops the more high end Boutique where you gown will reflect a high end price.  Don’t worry too much, you and your chosen friends can always celebrate succesful day of dress shopping at a funky cocktail bar.

Take a risk

You have taken the time to go shopping for your dress, so don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone. You have nothing to loose to try on a gown you are not quite sure about. So of the most amazing looks are generated from that hidden gem of a gown that you didnt think would   work for you.   Don’t dismiss a dress until you’ve tried it on. It may not be the dress you have dreamed of, but they look different on a hanger; you never know, you could rock the dress once it’s on.

Don’t Settle

Never settle for a dress you’re not 100% happy with. You need to make sure it doesn’t make you feel self-conscious. YourIt’ll show on the day if you’re not comfortable in the dress. You need to make sure you feel happy and confident in every angle of the dress. If you have to talk yourself into it, it is not the one. If you love the dress and feel confident, it will radiate on the day and you’ll be bouncing on cluds walking down the aisle and at your reception.

Too many cooks…

As the old saying goes, too mnay cooks spoil the broth. When doing your initial browsing for dressed it might be best to restrict your crew to 3 people. Take people whose jusgement you trust and respect.  The more people, the more opinions, meaning it could become more over whelming than it needs to be. Don’t forget – it is your wedding not theirs. They could talk you out of the perfect dress because of their own opinions. Your opinion is the only one that matters. Also, the bigger the group, the harder for boutiques to accommodate you all.

Once you have selected or shortlisted your gown, you may choose to revist the boutique with parents or the inlaws as a courtesy and a sign of respect.

Be Patient

It is important to go through a process to ensure that you find the perfect wedding dress, Some brides are lucky and fall for the first dress they try on, others may need to try on many dresses, and visit many boutiques to be happy with their choice. The key message is not to be disheartened, there is a dress with your name on it, you just have be patient to find it.

Set your Budget before you start your serach

When you’re looking at racks and racks of stunning gowns at a boutiquethe salon, it can be hard to focus on the budget you set for yourself. After all, when the abundance of choice is on display , you’ll probably want to try on everything. But this is decidedly not the way to shop, in fact, we strongly suggest having seriously conversations about your budget you even entertain the idea of trying on a single gown.

Allow your self plenty of time

No one can enjoy any process when you are under pressure. Good decisions are made when you are no rushed, or feel that you are running out of time. The process to find that dress could take a week or it could take months. Also keep in mind many dresses may require alterations, so please factor in time for  alterations.

Shopping for your dress is meant to be fun, so have fun!

This is a time in your life when you get to try on as many exquisite and expensive dresses as you want. You’ll be the center of attention (at least among your group at the shop), and people will treat you with special kindness because you’re a have fun!
